No. 1880 & 1881 | Course Credit 2 | Grade Level 9 - 12

The purpose of this class is to introduce students to a wide-range of vocabulary and basic language structures. Students will speak, listen, read and write French in class. Students will learn about French culture and participate in cultural activities. A good understanding of English grammar is useful. This is a one semester class.

No. 1851 & 1852 Course Credit: 2 Grade Level: 10 - 12

This course emphasizes conversation and communicating on a variety of topics, including family, physical descriptions, food and food customs, clothing, vacation, shopping for everyday needs. We will also be studying how French is used in over 20 countries throughout the world as well as exploring the culture of these countries.

This course emphasizes meaningful communication, incorporating intensive structure practice so that in real-world situations, students will be comfortable using the language. Students will ask and answer questions, narrate and describe, as well as understand short oral and written passages. In the process, they will improve their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, becoming more accurate in the language they produce. They will expand their knowledge of culture and gain awareness of multiple view points.

This is a continuation of Spanish I. New vocabulary topics are introduced and previous vocabulary sets areexpanded. Students are expected to further develop their listening comprehension skills as well as to increase their conversational ability in discussing familiar topics. Progress in reading and writing skills is a goal of second year study. The World Language Department recommends that a college bound student complete three to four years of the same foreign language during high school. *It is highly recommended that a student have earned at least a “C” grade in Spanish I before enrolling in Spanish II.

This class is designed to: continue development of conversational ability; continue to increase the vocabulary span; improve reading comprehension; solidify knowledge of grammar and structure, develop ability in written composition on the topics studied and increase awareness of the culture, literature, art and music of the countries studied. The World Language Department recommends that a college bound student complete three to four years of the same foreign language during high school. *It is highly recommended that a student have earned at least a “C” grade in Spanish II before enrolling in Spanish III.
